Make sure the tea is stored properly; in a resealable bag or tin at room temperature

Always use freshly drawn and newly boiled water.

Water temperature is important - Green teas & White teas taste best when infused with 60°C-80°C. Black teas & oolongs are best when near boiling water is used.

When no tea pot is to hand place a good pinch of leaves in the bottom of a mug and pour on near boiling water.
Infuse tea for 3 minutes or so. Do not leave to stew. Some teas can be infused 2-3 times. Indeed, in China, the third infusion is considered to deliver the best flavour.
Milk & Sugar? White and green teas are so delicate that milk & sugar are not needed. Indeed, some teas have an almost sweet flavour anyway. Some black teas like The Bellevue Belter are designed to be taken with milk and/or sugar.
